Think Before You Flush!

Although there may be a shortage of toilet paper at the moment it is important that when it comes to your toilet you Think Before You Flush!

Only the three P’s belong in your toilet; Pee, Poo and toilet Paper. Anything else – including “flushable wipes” – is bad news for your drains and will lead to blockages and disruptions in your sewer system.

Know what to flush

When we go to the toilet all we want to do is flush and forget. But it’s not always quite that simple. We live in a disposable age, with convenient products which can be thrown away. Coupled with the current supply shortages of toilet paper across the country, people are getting creative with a wide variety of things,
such as; wet wipes, tissues, paper kitchen towel and Chux wipes, just to name a few.

Unfortunately, these products are often thrown down the toilet, instead of in the bin, causing havoc in the sewers.

The bad news is, when they are flushed down your toilet these items don’t just disappear down the drain, but clump together to block sewers. When blocked, sewer can flood homes and gardens, causing misery for
families. Some of these items even end up in our rivers and on our beaches.

We know this because we see it every day.

What to bin

There are many household items that people flush that shouldn’t be put in the toilet:

Dental floss, cotton buds, cotton balls, hair, fat, oils or grease, uneaten food scraps, coffee grounds, sanitary products, condoms, nail clippings, “flushable” wipes, baby wipes – actually any form of wipes, wrappers, hair, cigarette butts, kitty litter (even flushable types), nappies, medication, toys, towels . . .

But just because it GOES down the drain, doesn’t mean it SHOULD go down the drain!

Let me introduce you to the 3P’s. The only 3 things that belong down your toilet drain – Pee, Poop and toilet Paper. Everything else goes in the bin, even if it tells you its “flushable” . . . it’s not.

You see, most toilet paper is specially made to break down in the sewer and septic systems, along with poop and pee. Everything else is bad news for your drains and will lead to blockages and disruptions in your sewer system.

So, think twice, don’t use your toilet as a bin and stick to the 3P’s – Poo, Pee and toilet Paper.

If you find that your drains have blocked, remember, our friendly team are always here to help.
